Reese’s Dipped Pretzels Should Be Better Than This

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are one of my favorite chocolates. That balance of chocolate and peanut butter is such a home run.

My affection for Reese’s means I’ll try almost any product that incorporates it. Reese’s Cups with Reese’s Puffs? Amazing. Oreo Reese’s Peanut Buttery Creme Chocolate Sandwich Cookies? One of the best Oreos ever. 

So when I saw Reese’s Dipped Pretzels, I knew I had to give them a shot. After all, Reese’s Take Five is an incredible candy bar. I imagined that these would simply be a pared-back version of the same idea: pretzel + chocolate + peanut butter.

Unfortunately they’re underwhelming. 

What Works About Reese’s Dipped Pretzels

To be fair, overall Reese’s Dipped Pretzels aren’t bad. The pretzel has a nice flavor and a good crunch, and the peanut butter coating is pleasant enough. There’s also a creamy finish that almost reminds me of ice cream on the palate.

That’s where the good ends, though.

Where They Fall Short

There are two main problems with Reese’s Dipped Pretzels:

• There’s little-to-no chocolate flavor;
• The overall flavor is just too mild.

These dipped pretzels mostly taste like peanut butter and pretzel, and even the peanut butter flavor isn’t especially strong. That’s a problem because the whole snacks feels muted. The pretzel is there, the peanut butter is there, and the idea is there—but the flavor never really pops.

The Reese’s comparison only makes that more disappointing. Reese’s-flavored Oreos, for example, are assertive in their chocolate and peanut butter flavor. These dipped pretzels don’t have that same payoff.

Without the chocolate flavor, they don’t evoke Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. And even if I approached them purely as peanut butter pretzels, they’d still fall short. The idea is great, but the flavor just doesn’t deliver.

The Scary Part: Why I Kept Wanting More

Here’s the weird thing: despite being underwhelmed, I still found myself wanting more.

That’s not a compliment, exactly. It’s a reminder that some snacks are built to be “addictive”: easy to keep eating, even when they aren’t especially satisfying. Reese’s Dipped Pretzels have enough sweetness, salt, fat, crunch, and peanut-butter flavor to keep the bag moving.

But craving and loving something are not the same thing—and craving something you aren’t wild about is a little scary.

Are Reese’s Dipped Pretzels Worth Buying?

So, should you try these? 

I wouldn’t bother. 

They’re not terrible, but they’re also not nearly as good as they should be. For a Reese’s product built around pretzels, chocolate, and peanut butter, these should be an easy win. Instead, they feel like a missed opportunity. And the fact that I still wanted more after being underwhelmed? Creepy. 

Instead I would pick up chocolate-covered pretzels from Utz, Snyder’s, or Trader Joe’s and then simply add a little peanut butter.

How They Could Be Better

The frustrating thing is Reese’s Dipped Pretzels could be incredible with a few tweaks.

Imagine, if you will, a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup wrapped around a pretzel. Reese’s already makes PB cups with pretzels pieces in them, and those are amazing. 

That’s basically all this product needs to become: more chocolate and stronger peanut butter flavor.

Do those two small things and these dipped pretzels could be amazing.
